I do a lot of repair work and custom rods for the gang at AZ Fly Shop Rich Kim wanted me to put together an 8-foot nymph rod. You hardcore Euro nymphers are probably thinking the rod will be too short. You want a long rod, high stick through the flow, and have the leverage to get it back upstream.
I contacted Herb, my rep at CTS rods to start the process of designing a blank that could perform these tasks, but be short enough to get into tight spots. We have come up with what I think will be a valuable tool for fly fishermen in the smaller streams and hard-to-access mountain rivers. The rod is a 4 piece so the tube will not catch on overhead branches.
